- The first ZeLIG Video Film Computer seminar is held. It is a bilingual course funded by FSE. The aim is to train professional figures for work in cinema, television and computer graphics.
- In August ZeLIG moves its headquarters to a parochial structure located in Oltrisarco, at via Claudia Augusta 111.
- Anton (Toni) Colleselli becomes director of ZeLIG.
- December 9, Kolpinghaus (Bolzano) hosts screenings of the first 4 films by ZeLIG students. Cambia Farbe by Max Ruggera and Fabrizio Piano wins the Camaleonte award. This is the first end-of-the-year celebration, the start of a tradition which each year features public screenings of students’ thesis films.
- ZeLIG film-awareness initiatives begin, a chance for the general public to meet with teachers, who hold seminars at these events. Most awareness initiatives are presented in collaboration with two consolidated promoters of film-culture in Alto Adige: Cineforum and Filmclub.
- Film series - The New Argentinean Cinema.
- Film series - Cinema Over Time. In collaboration with Cineforum and Filmclub, ZeLIG organizes annual Cinema Over Time events: 1895-1945, 1945-1968, Slapstick & Comedy 1914-1983. Each year, this historical series is accompanied by a publication.

- Collaboration, along with the Bolzano Academy of Design, on the media arts exhibit Translocation organized by ARGE Kunst.
- ZeLIG begins collaboration with The Trento International Film Festival Mountains, Exploration, Adventure. ZeLIG hosts the conference After the Conquest: Film Images of the Mountains 2000. A grant for students at ZeLIG and the Academy of the Image in Aquila is created for the realization of a film on mountain culture. The grant is available for two years.

- Over the course of the year the transition is made which leads ZeLIG to concentrate its entire focus on documentaries, with special attention given to the world of new media. The new ZeLIG is indeed a school for documentary, television and new media. This is a response to the demands shown by research on the training needs for European documentary-makers and the work of a specially-created commission.
- At the Merano TV Festival, ZeLIG organizes the first pitching forum in Alto Adige for the presentation of documentary projects by local filmmakers.
- In collaboration with Maremma Doc Festival, ZeLIG organizes the first of three editions of the seminar on project development: Writing Documentaries. This was one of the demands that came to the fore during ZeLIG research on the training needs for European documentary-makers. ZeLIG begins to differentiate types of training offered, including courses on specific facets of documentary-making outside Alto Adige.

- The EsoDoc project receives the Cultura Socialis Award in the Media category. An initiative promoted by Social Policies Department of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano for the development of processes aimed at a “new culture of social organization”.
- ZeLIG presents its ESoDoc project at Think digital!, a forum on digital filmmaking at the del Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival in Saarbrücken, in a discussion regarding the development of digital techniques for documentary films and changes in the direction of training.
- Collaboration on the educational project Make: your story. The workshop is geared toward NGOs and associations in Trento, and focuses on techniques used for telling about stories, people and places in international cooperation, promoted by the Kiné cooperative in collaboration with FORMAT.
- ZeLIG proposes to Board of Education in Italian of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano a course for teachers entitled Making a video at school under the guidance of a professional aimed at promoting greater awareness in the use of video in schools. The first module is approved and completed.

- Greater commitment in the area of new media with participation ZeLIG is the exclusive partner for Italy in ONLINEFILM, pilot project for on-line distribution of films, funded by the European Union’s Media Programme.
- ZeLIG offers summer participatory video course entitled My Gaze, for young people, promoted by the Youth Services Department of the Italian Culture Section of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
- Production completed on LINK900, a series of 10 documentaries on the history of Alto Adige in the 20th century, in the collaboration with ZeLIG graduates. This lengthy and complex production was carried out with the aid of consulting by four Italian and German-speaking historians, and supported by the Office of Culture, Board of Education and of Professional Training in Italian of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio and the RAI in Bolzano.
- ZeLIG collaborates with the Trento Film Festival for the organization in Trento of IDS - Italian Doc Screenings, the most important presentation event for Italian documentaries on the international market, organized by doc/it.
- ZeLIG is a partner in the reelisor project, a Web platform for the collaboration of European documentary professionals, promoted by Discovery Campus Masterschool and supported by the European Union’s Media Programme.
